Take a Look at How Dental Crowns Are Placed

Your dentist will remove a small amount of enamel to allow the crown to fit properly. The crown is then permanently bonded over the tooth structure.

Dental Crown Treatment Timeline

We offer crowns made from a variety of lifelike, long-lasting materials.
We offer crowns made from a variety of lifelike, long-lasting materials.

Consultation

During your initial consultation, your dentist will examine your mouth to determine if a dental crown is right for you. We will also discuss your concerns, goals, and budget.

Initial Treatments

If you need preparatory treatment such as root canal therapy or implant placement, these steps will be completed during other appointments. If you choose an implant to replace a missing tooth, the treatment site will be allowed to heal for several months.

Preparation

Your dentist will then prep the tooth by removing a very conservative amount of the enamel. This allows the crown to fit properly over the tooth.

Impressions

Your dentist will make an impression of the tooth as well as the teeth above and below the tooth to ensure that your crown will fit comfortably when you bite.

Temporary Crown

A temporary crown will be placed over the tooth while we wait for the lab to craft your custom dental crown.

Fabrication

Your impressions are sent to our trusted dental lab, where they will craft your custom crown. Once it is done, usually in two to three weeks, it will be sent to our Thomasville dental practice.

Permanent Crown Placement

The temporary crown is removed before your dentist places and bonds the permanent crown to the tooth. They will make adjustments to ensure proper fit and comfort.

Have questions about dental crown treatment?

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Crowns

Does getting a dental crown hurt?

No. Your dentist will numb the area before they prep the tooth to ensure you do not feel any discomfort during the procedure. Once the crown is placed, you may feel some sensitivity for a few days but this should dissipate quickly.

Will dental insurance cover my crown?

Most dental insurance plans will cover at least some of the costs associated with your dental crown treatment. This will vary by plan and provider. Our staff will help to maximize your benefits with your dental insurance provider.

How long with my dental crown last?

On average, dental crowns last about five to seven years. With proper care and maintenance, your crown can last for 15 years or longer.
